Letter to a Shining Girl on the Night of a Full Moon
Tonight, I rescued the moon from drowning.
It must have gotten drunk,
And fallen into the sea.
The same moon that kissed Shanghai
Last evening, has fled to America
To huddle like a refugee among stars.
Irresponsible moon,
Another drunk tourist, dancing
On the streets of New Orleans.
The black vastness of the sky
Winds, a single braid in your hair
And is held fast, by the moon;;
Turning back, to see if the moon was safe,
I saw your pale, slender hands tossing it up,
Like a ball.
